Foreign Comedy Reviews
Foreign comedy films are proof that everyone in the world needs a good laugh. I especially love writing movie reviews dealing with this genre, and hope that you discover some good titles here. In my experience, the power of laughter is often labeled frivolous or unimportant in the film study field, and I'm not sure why. Noticing the absurdities of life, and finding humor in every day situations is, in and of itself, an art form. In a world where everyone will one day face some degree of suffering, making a film with laughter as the main goal is far more difficult than exploring the life of yet another brutal dictator or the emotional aftermath of some horrible event that you wouldn't want to see a movie about anyway. Not to diminish the doom and gloom movies that get all the awards, but the ability to laugh should be seen as a mark of bravery, but too often isn't. Nothing is more scary than a person who hates laughing, and I bet you all know someone like that. Do you want to be that miserable S.O.B? I didn't think so. The good news, my friends, is that there is no shortage of comedy movies produced around the world every year. And there's enough variety to appeal to a broad palate of humorous persuasions. Foreign comedy films are a good choice to go if you're new to world cinema. As a viewer, you're at an advantage because you know right away that the director's intent is to make you pee your pants (in a good way).
